About
The Birth
The Recognition
By the end of the 1980s, Expac had gained significant work from the ACI glass plant in Penrose, which started a successful working relationship that has spanned over three decades and continues strongly to the present day.
Due to the strong growth of work from the Glassworks, Expac grew in size and turnover throughout the 1990s. Staff numbers increased to 8 staff during this period, and the Business moved location to the current business premises.
Expac Invested in CNC machinery to increase its productivity and the quality of the components being made in the workshop. Over time, this investment allowed Expac to service other vital industriesaround the Penrose area, including OJI Penrose Mill, Saeco Wilson, Fisher and Paykel, PML and others.
The development Phase
The relationship with the key customer (ACI Glass) grew in strength, and toward the end of the 1990s, the company went through an international acquisition (1998) and became O-I NZ Glass. As part ofthe O-I Group, the plant saw a significant investment over the following decade. Expac Engineeringhas always been involved in these capital projects and introducing new technology and processes.
In 2010, Expac was also involved in supplying services for the two new glass manufacturing lines for O-I NZ Glass, from the furnaces to the inspection lines and final packaging. The success of this project cemented Expac’s position as the key preferred supplier to the glassworks. To this day, Expac Engineering is relied upon
daily to supply new and reconditioned components for the glassworks in NZ, Australia and Asia.
